History
Tracey was born and raised in the Midwest and grew up “horse crazy,” starting her riding career at the age of 7 on western horses and hunters. At the young age of 11 she turned her focus to dressage, taking lessons in her home state of Michigan, honing her skills and garnering many awards along the way. Equus Dressage was born when Tracey decided she wanted to make horses and dressage her career, and since then she has managed her own business and barn, teaching and coaching students and training horses. She and her husband, Steve, moved to Arizona in 1994 and shortly thereafter their daughter, Mackenzie, was born.
As a competitor, Tracey has earned numerous Rider of the Year/Horse of the Year awards, as well as the Cameo Award from the Arizona Dressage Association. The Cameo Award goes to the highest ranked horse that year in the FEI division that has been brought up the levels by an Arizona trainer. She has multiple USDF and USEF awards from the lower levels to the FEI division and has earned her Bronze and Silver Medals. She has been repeatedly highlighted in the Chronicle of the Horse and was interviewed for an article in the USDF Connection. Her mentors include Pan Am Gold Medal winner and 2012 USA Olympic Team Member, Jan Ebeling, and she brings in Danish clinician, Henrik Johansen, twice a year to continue to educate and improve the riders of Equus Dressage.
As a coach, Tracey’s skills shine with horses of all breeds and riders of all ages and levels. She was the Coach for a very successful FEI Young Rider and went to the 2008 North American Junior Young Rider Championships as a coach, where the team placed in the top five. She currently has a variety of horses in training and accepts all breeds. Tracey has won world titles on Morgans and has had a half-Arabian that won the Arabian Regional Championship at Third Level for its adult amateur owner and was Champion USEF Region Horse of the Year at Second Level for 2010. This horse went on to win PSG titles in the Arabian world under Tracey's guidence. Several of her riders have earned their Bronze, Silver, and Gold medals under her tutelage. Tracey especially enjoys helping her clients bring their own horses up the levels, encouraging her riders to set goals within a framework of teamwork and having fun.
Her dedication to her business, the horses and her clients is unparalleled, with long days spent at the barn. Her commitment is rewarded by a group of people who are “enjoying success and thriving on the process,” which is Tracey’s motto.
When she DOES have some free time, she is usually still around horses, supporting her daughter, Mackenzie, in the Reining horse world. “Mickie” has followed in her mother’s footsteps of success, and is a Nationally-ranked Reining Rider in the Youth and Non-Pro divisions, as well as a talented photographer.
